Hotel Review: Astoria Bohol

Every time we travel, we always check if there’s an Astoria property in the area. It’s our default choice. From Astoria Palawan to Astoria Boracay, we’ve had great experiences. So when we planned our trip to Bohol, we already knew where we wanted to stay. This time, we checked in at Astoria Bohol.

Unlike their other resorts with dozens of rooms, Astoria Bohol only has eight. That was the first thing that stood out.

The place felt more intimate. It’s located in Baclayon, and the design reflects the local heritage. You won’t see the usual tropical or beachy look here. Instead, it feels like stepping into a modern Filipino home. The outside looks like a heritage mansion, while the interiors are filled with neutral tones and textures that feel both new and familiar.

The architecture was done by Ed Gallego, and the rooms were designed by Cynthia and Ivy Almario. Every corner looked carefully planned. Even with all the upgrades and details, it still felt very grounded in Boholano culture.

Astoria Bohol Amenities

The highlight for us was the heated infinity pool. It faces the sea, and it’s such a peaceful place to hang out, especially in the late afternoon. The pool was right in front of our room on the first floor, which made it easy for us to go in and out whenever we wanted.

They also have a beachfront area that’s nice for walking and watching the sunset. The place is quiet, with very few guests during our stay. It helped us fully enjoy the silence and the slow pace.

Each room has a rainshower and bathtub, smart TV with Netflix, coffee and tea sets, and complete bath essentials. There’s also Wi-Fi, a refrigerator, and an electronic safe. The bathroom was big, and the whole space felt roomy, even with five adults and a child. We added an extra bed, and it still didn’t feel tight.

Our Experience at Astoria Bohol

We arrived around 6 PM at Bohol airport, and our van service was already waiting. The drive to the hotel took about 30 minutes. We reached Astoria Bohol by 7 PM. The receptionist greeted us warmly and helped us with our bags right away.

Check-in was fast. By the time we got to our room, they had already prepared some welcome snacks and drinks. We stayed in the Luxury Room with two queen beds, and like I said earlier, we added one more. Even with the extra bed, there was still enough space to move around.

Audrey spent most of her time in the pool, and I loved relaxing on the balcony while listening to the birds. It felt quiet. The staff were helpful and always ready to assist with anything. One afternoon, we stayed out by the beach just to watch the sunset. It was a slow, simple moment—but one I won’t forget.

If there’s anything that could still improve, it’s the food. The restaurant had decent meals, but the menu was limited. We found ourselves wanting something else by the second night. Unfortunately, getting food from outside wasn’t easy. Most dining places are far and transport options are limited.
