A night in Cebu city’s luxury business hotel: Marco Polo Cebu Hotel
Mid-last year when my husband, Dee and I went to Cebu for my birthday celebration! I wanted to treat myself a bit so we agreed to stay in one of the five-star hotels in Cebu.
Being a metropolitan, Cebu city has many luxury hotel options. And with the variety of choices, I thought we won’t encounter any issues booking a room. Careless may it sound, but we failed to make a reservation ahead of time.
Base on my simple math – assuming each hotel has 200 rooms and the city has more than 10 luxury hotels then we have more than 2,000 rooms for accommodation. So there’s a slim chance of fully booked hotels especially if it’s August – not season, no festival or anything. So I’m very surprised that my top 3 choices told me their fully booked.
With no choices, I was ready to give up my opulent dream and will settle for a simple accommodation. We were already in Cebu and were having lunch in Circa when I checked Marco Polo’s website again. It’s the same – fully booked. But I decided to call, hoping that by any chance they still have a room. The receptionist was nice and told me that they’ll call back within an hour once their reservation officer is back. I was not really hoping for anything but they called back. I am so happy that they got a room for us.
How to get there
Honestly, I don’t know if there’s a cheaper way to get in Marco Polo. I didn’t saw public utility jeeps that may drop you there even though it is just along the highway. Cab/Taxi and GrabCar are our two options in getting around the city. Taxi driver here are nicer than most of the drivers in Metro Manila. We felt safe with them. Luckily, they can understand Tagalog and English.

The Room
When we arrived in our room, all I can say is “Nice”. The facilities are well-kept and look lavish. But what captured me the most is the stunning view in our room. We indeed get what we paid for. Our room is a Deluxe Sea View on the 23rd floor. We can see the entire Cebu and Manduaue city.

My favorite part of the bathroom is the marbled bathtub! Just like any other hotels, this has complimentary sanitary items like shampoo, soap, conditioner, lotion and more. I also love that bathrobe is readily available when I need it.
Snacks at El Viento
El Viento is their restaurant by the pool area. This serves for anyone who prefers to eat outdoor. They have few snack choices and many beverage selections.
For our complimentary pizza, we got their best seller Pizza Marco. The 12 inch pizza is topped with tomato, mozzarella cheese, salami, grilled pepper, artichoke, zucchini and boiled egg. It’s cook in wood-fire that gave its authentic taste. It’s quite unexpected that the toppings complimented one another. It tasted good and I love that it’s not as greasy as the usual pizza here in the metro. I also ordered Chocolate Chip Frappucino and beer for Dee.

Breakfast at Cafe Marco
Recognized as one of the best buffet in Cebu, Café Marco offers variety of Asian and Continental treats.
Now, the best part – buffet breakfast! Whenever we are checked in somewhere, we take our breakfast on six o’clock in the morning. Chinese and Japanese stations have satisfied my appetite while Dee indulged in sweets and pastries. Aside from that they also have a salad station that has everything you wished for a healthy breakfast. But can you guess who the star is that morning? Well, it’s bacon!
