When we arrived in Taiwan, one of the first things on our minds was finding a good spot to eat after checking into the Greenworld Hotel. Just an easy 8-minute walk away, we found Metro Cafe, a little cafe in the Zhongzheng District of Taipei.
Metro Cafe is a well-liked Taiwanese coffee shop among the locals. The owner has a serious passion for coffee. He used to be an importer of raw coffee materials. He sources rare, competition-grade beans you won’t typically find in regular cafes. It’s not just about your standard latte; they use modern brewing techniques to create something special in every cup.
While the coffee was great, the food menu felt limited. There are a few solid options, but I was hoping for more variety.
Before you go, a few things to note:
- Every customer needs to order at least one item.
- You can’t bring outside food.
- There’s a 1.5-hour time limit on weekends, though you’re free to linger during the week unless the place fills up.
- If you’re an animal lover, pets are welcome as long as they’re leashed or in a carrier.
What we ordered at Metro Cafe in Taipei, Taiwan
Each meal had a side salad consisting of sliced lettuce, cherry tomatoes, carrots, sliced almonds, and a simple balsamic vinegar dressing. It was light and refreshing. Nothing too fancy, but it worked. Here’s a quick rundown of the dishes we tried:
Club Sandwich

This came with a side salad and a choice of drink. We went with the apple juice, but it wasn’t really our thing; Audrey found it had a strange aftertaste. As for the sandwich, it was decent. It was filled with shredded chicken, crispy bacon, and fresh veggies like lettuce and tomato. The corn chips on the side, though, were a nice touch. It was sweet and salty at the same time, which I enjoyed.
Metro Scone Brunch

This dish was more substantial. It came with a sea salt butter scone, scrambled eggs, yogurt with dried nuts and fruit, and a choice of meat (oven-roasted beef or teriyaki pork). We went with the pork, served in thick, tender slices with a savory kick to it. The scrambled eggs were soft and fluffy, just how I like them. The yogurt was a pleasant surprise. It was creamy with a nice balance of sweet and tangy flavors, thanks to the dried fruit and nuts sprinkled on top.
Metro Deluxe Brunch

Another filling dish. This one came with scrambled eggs, a crispy baguette, and hash browns though the “hash browns” were more like seasoned marble potatoes, served in a generous portion. For the protein, we chose smoked salmon. It was perfectly salty with just the right amount of smokiness, adding a nice contrast to the rest of the meal. Once again, the scrambled eggs were on point. It was fluffy and flavorful.
Both meals came with a refreshing cup of iced tea, which was a nice touch to balance out the richness of the food.
Metro Cafe is a great spot if you’re looking for quality coffee and a decent meal. While I wished for more variety on the menu, the food was tasty, and the coffee really did stand out. The atmosphere is laid-back and a perfect place to sit and relax, especially during the week when it’s less crowded.
If you’re staying at the Greenworld Hotel or in the Zhongzheng District, Metro Cafe is worth checking out especially if you appreciate a well-brewed coffee.
