Restaurant Review: Tong Yang Plus (The Block, SM North Edsa)

Few more days and we’re going to celebrate Valentine’s Day! And since we are still in the middle of the Covid global crisis, we can’t go out and celebrate like we used to.

So I’ll be sharing how we celebrated Valentine’s Day last year. This post is long overdue. There are changes with the dine-in experience because restaurants are strictly compliant with the health guidelines.

Last year, I just wanted to EAT ALOT for Valentine’s. We didn’t go out as often as we used to when Audrey arrived. There are many restaurants in Quezon City to choose from. Tong Yang in Megamall is one of my comfort restaurants, that’s why I thought I’ll have the same or better experience with Tong Yang Plus in The Block SM North. Tong Yang Plus is a grill and hotpot buffet restaurant that also serve common cooked Asian dishes.

We arrived 15 minutes before the restaurant’s opening. Booking a slot is fairly easy and we did not wait that long for us to be seated. We were seated beside the dumpling station.

The restaurant is spacious and I think can accommodate more than a hundred guests. The interior design looks deluxe. According to them, this branch is inspired by a French market (MARCHÉ FRANÇAIS).

Since we are regulars in Tong Yang (Megamall), we ordered our usual broths – chicken and Sinigang. However, their Sinigang is different from Megamall. It didn’t have the sourness of Sinigang. Dee thought that maybe they made a mistake and have given us a different broth so he requested to replace it with a new Sinigang broth. It still tasted the same.

Other than that, it was a great experience. I love that their exhaust system works well. Even if the restaurant is full, and all tables are grilling and boiling shabu-shabu at the same time, we didn’t feel musty and “amoy inihaw”.

Would I recommend this restaurant? YES! It’s a great all-in-one buffet restaurant. Whether you’re craving for – grill, shabu-shabu, Asian meals, and more, they have it.

Would I come back to dine in again? Probably yes, I’d dine again if there is no special occasion. I’m not sure about Dee because he is disappointed with Sinigang broth. HAHAHAHA
