Hey mommies! Are you looking for baby-led weaning (BLW) food inspirations?
I know how difficult it is to find BLW meal ideas that feature local dishes. That’s why I curated a list of the BLW Instagram accounts made by Filipina moms. Their accounts feature easy and simple meal ideas that you can do on your own.
Here’s the list of Baby Led Weaning accounts in the Philippines that you should follow:
When Sabel turned 6-months we started with traditional weaning. I spoon feed pureed foods to her. I was surprised that she finished everything!
Every mealtime, she keeps on grabbing the spoon and putting it in her mouth. She gets frustrated whenever I stop her. She will cry and the eating will stop. This goes on for two weeks.
As a nurse, I am already familiar with BLW. I was hesitant at first because I am terrified that she might choke. I observed my baby and looked for the cues.
- She shows so much interest in food
- She is not playing with it but she is actually eating it
This means she wants to self-feed! So we gave it a go. We started with few steamed veggies and true enough, my baby is happier feeding herself. It’s amazing that she knows to pick up her food and eat on her own.
Our BLW journey is not always rainbows and unicorns. There are days when most of the food will end up on the floor. But my baby never stops trying all the food that I serve. She is happy every eating time. She gets super excited when we sit her in her chair and when she sees her plate.
All it took were listening to her cues and respecting her preference. I am learning so much from her as well.
When Gauv turned 5 months, I started looking into ways that would help me with Gauv’s weaning journey. I am familiar with traditional weaning because before it is common.
However, I found another way to introduce food called Baby-Led Weaning. I became very interested so I researched about it. I watch many videos, join Facebook groups dedicated to BLW and checked tutorials online. I made sure I have the knowledge about it before Gauv and I started. I know the pros and cons, first aid if the baby is choking, the difference between gagging & choking etc.
As I watched him eat during his first meal, my heart beats rapidly. He gagged but I didn’t show him how nervous I was. I cheered and supported him so he can overcome his gagging.
Every day before his meal I pray that he won’t choke while eating. Thank God! He gave more than what I prayed for. Gauv showed great improvements every day.
Yes, BLW is messier and more time consuming than spoon-feeding but it provides many benefits for the baby and the whole family. Gauv can choose, pick up and explore his food. He is used to different food textures. We can eat together. He is now 10 months old and I am proud that he is an independent eater and not a picky eater 🥰
So that’s about it. I hope the following accounts have inspired you with awesome meals for your babies.
