JM Dormitel: Affordable night in Baguio

It’s not new that Baguio is a must-visit place in Luzon. With lots to offer like picturesque landscapes, countless local and homegrown restaurants, cafes & bars, temperature that’s not exceeding 26 degrees celsius, delectable street foods, cheap vegetables, friendly locals and more; it’s no wonder that it was dubbed as “Summer Capital of the Philippines”.

When I was super duper younger, this is a popular tourist destination for summer break. It was early 90’s then, there are few hotels already but we stayed in a homestay. I cannot recall where exactly it is located but the house has 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom has an own cr with bathub! There were no shower heater at that time and we have no choice but take a bath in an ice-cold water!

a vacation but staying on local’s home

Two decades after, I visited Baguio again. Homestay is still a good option for family or group of friends. No need to ask if someone knew someone who has a homestay in Baguio as we can now easily book it online thru apps like AirBnb.

Aside from homestay, a popular but cheaper option for backpacker is a domitory type of hotel. Usually, there are 3 double deck beds in a room and you can share it with other backpackers. For around Php 300.00 peesos for a night, it is really the best option for solo travellers.

There are many dormitel/room share in Baguio but I preferred to stay in a well-maintained room that focuses on cleanliness and affordability. I don’t fall for pretty photos because at times they’re too good to be true. I read reviews from forum to forum, check other blog reviews and contact them.

Well, JM Dormitel caught my attention. With 4.5 rating from 79 Facebook reviews, this accommodation is perfect for me. I contacted them thru Facebook and booked right away for me and my friends. They required 50% downpayment that will be deposited in their PNB account.

How to get there

Hail a taxi and tell the driver to drop you off 77 Lucban road. If they aren’t familiar with the place, you cantell them it’s near Magsaysay Elementary School & St. Louis University.

Waze them while on trip to make sure you’ll not get lost. The location is not on the main highway but along residential area. But once you get there, you;ll get used to it.

Our Experience at JM Dormitel

When we arrived at the place, I was attracted with their lobby. It may be simple but the urban overlooking view made it standout.

The check in process was easy and fast. They also did not require us to pay for the full amount and inform us that we can just settle it once my friends arrived the next day.

Tip! They rarely have availability for early check in and/or late check out but they have allowed us to leave our baggages inside their office so we can continue on our tour even if we are not yet check in or we are already checked out.

The Room

During my first night, I was with my mother and we stayed in a standard room. There were no air-con, only electric fan. It is also equipped with:

  • television
  • cabinet
  • chair
  • air con
  • own cr with free toiletries
  • free breakfast

We paid for around Php 1,300 (750 each).

For the second night, my friends already arrived and we moved to budget room. Now this has 4 double deck beds with the same inclusion like the other room.

We paid for Php 500 each.

Breakfast

The breakfast is simple and delicious. It’s also affordable too! For around Php 50, you can get yourself an extra meal. That’s if one meal is not enough for you. πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Patricia! Just saw your message. Yes, for me it’s near the town proper. It’s near St. Louis University and around 10 mins drive to Burnham Park. Hope this helps πŸ™‚
