Hotel Review: Astoria Palawan

Palawan is one of the provinces in the Philippines that I love visiting over and over again. This province has the perfect blend of aquamarine seas, limestone cliffs, and beautiful lagoons. No wonder it was dubbed one of the world’s most beautiful islands!

Recently, we went back to Palawan again to celebrate my birthday. As usual, we stayed in Astoria Palawan.

Astoria Palawan is a five-hectare eco-friendly resort in Puerto Princesa designed in vibrant and vivid tropical colors. The resort is built using sustainable materials but boosts elegant and modern architecture.

Astoria Palawan Amenities

Astoria Palawan is a big resort with many recreational activities. If you want to unwind and relax, you can stay just like we did for a day or two.

Here are their current facilities that you can enjoy:

Located just beside Astoria Palawan, Palawan Waterpark is the first water theme park in Puerto Princesa. When we first visit last 2017, we were able to try and experience it. Sadly, it is now closed during our visit because of ongoing maintenance.

Inflata-FUN
Inflata-FUN is another fun water activity here in Astoria Palawan. Sadly, this is also not accessible until further notice.
Swimming Pools

Astoria Palawan has 2 swimming pools – The Pod & The Premier Pool.

The Pod is the first pool in the resort and we were able to try it during our first visit. It is also under maintenance now.

The Premier Pool is their newest pool addition located in the middle of villas. This is a lot bigger than The Pod.

Playground for kids

I guess kids are on top of their mind when Astoria Palawan was designing this resort as there are many playground within the resort’s facilities. Audrey enjoyed playing with each playground.

Mini Golf

They have a mini golf area near the entrance if golfing is your thing.

Gym

Guests can also enjoy their gym room. It’s big and has a lot of equipment. Fresh towels are available too. There is also changing and shower area.

Dryer Room

Astoria management discourages hanging wet swimwear when drying; that’s why they provide spin dryers to their guests. It is located in the Annex building.

Recreation Area

Guests can borrow a bike, kayak boat, paddle boat, and more. Their recreational area is located just beside the Habitat.

In House Restaurant/s

The Reserve
The Reserve is the restaurant just beside The Pod. This is also under maintenance.

The Habitat
This is their only restaurant during our visit. It’s alfresco and has a scenic view of the ocean.

Our Experience at Astoria Palawan

Since we arrived way earlier than the check-in time, we started with a city tour. The tour ended around noon, and we immediately headed to Astoria Palawan. After more than an hour’s trip, we arrived at Astoria at precisely 2 PM.

They immediately accommodated and checked us in, even though the standard check-in time for Astoria Club members was 4 PM. The crew assisted us with our luggage. They also served welcome drinks and snacks in the room.

We stayed in the 1 Bedroom unit in the Annex’s building. The room has the signature style of all Astoria properties. It’s chic and modern! The room is spacious, clean, and well-kept. I’d also like to highlight that I love the mild scent that lingers in the room. The room smells fresh and relaxing.

Room Features:
3 Queen Sized Beds
Shower & Bathtub
Kitchenette complete with utensils, pots, appliances, and induction cooker
TV & DVD
Safety Deposit Box
Standard Check-in Time: 2 PM | Standard Check-out Time: 11 AM

On our 2nd day, we went to El Nido for an island-hopping adventure. It was only a day trip so we left Astoria Palawan at 4 AM. The tour ended by 5 in the afternoon. We immediately headed back to Astoria and arrived at 10 in the evening. Since we were not sure if the tour will stop by for dinner, Dee called Astoria. He ordered dinner for us and requested to be served once we arrived. Astoria didn’t disappoint us.

Our first two days in Palawan are action-packed, so we decided to rest and enjoy the rest of our vacation in Astoria Palawan. We tried their recreational activities. Audrey played on their playgrounds. We enjoy their new pool. We also tried their breakfast and dinner buffet.

How to get to Astoria Palawan

  • The cheapest way to get to Astoria Palawan

Ride a tricycle from Puerto Princesa Airport (Php 100/head) to San Jose Terminal

Then, Ride a van from San Jose Terminal bound for Roxas/El Nido and ask them to drop you off at Astoria Palawan (Php 250/head)

NOTE: Based on our experience, drivers/conductors has a different charge per passenger. Their rate on local is cheaper than a tourist. We were charged more because we are tourists.
  • You can also rent a private van that will pick you up from Puerto Princesa Airport.
This will cost around Php 3,000 – Php 3,500.
